Through it’s partnerships with the Methodist Church of Zimbabwe and the Uniting Presbyterian Church in Southern Africa (including Zimbabwe), the Uniting Church has a significant relationship with the African nation.
The Zimbabwe Council of Churches has issued a statement that calls for action from the government regarding the outcome of the election. A copy of that statement can be accessed here.
Please continue to pray for our partners and for the people of Zimbabwe, You may also wish to write to the Australian Government, and encourage them to keep pressing the Government of Zimbabwe to be transparent in the election process and to make progress regarding Zimbabwe’s current crises.
I have spoken and written to the General Secretaries of our partner churches to assure them of the continuing interest, encouragement and prayers of the Uniting Church.
They indicate that the churches in Zimbabwe are concerned for increasing poverty and starvation. Some people have no money. Some people have money but there is no food to buy. Ministers are encouraging parishioners to be careful in waiting for the election results, particularly in a situation fraught with possibilities for further violence. They are looking for transparency without further inflaming the situation.
For all Christians, the situation in Zimbabwe represents a crisis for us to prayerfully engage with.
Get involved. Please write polite and respectful letters to:
